Let's Learn About Tea!

Heard of Oolong Cha?

Yup it's a chinese tea. But that's not out focus today. Today we're learning about Green Tea. Not the Japan ones. The China one.

My last trip to China, they brought us to this Green Tea Plantation at dawn. Well, it's in their tourist schedule and we can't escape from it.

But I did learn something there. Did you know that tea leaves are fried using bare hands?

They use hands to fry the leaves so that they can control the temperature of the wok. If it's too hot, they can lower the temperature. Tea leaves have nutrients in them. If temperature too high, the nutrients within are destroyed.

Before they start the frying, they wipe a layer of tea oil (those bottles on the brim of the wok) on the wok first so that the tea leaves won't stick on the wok.

Green tea plant but the baby leaves are already plucked by the workers.

To make green tea, they only pluck the new grown baby leaves at the end of the branch. So, imagine how much they need to many so many green teas to be exported overseas and also sold in their country.

Well, it's a tourist area. So, they definitely want to try their hardest to sell as much tea to you as possible. So, we end up in a room for their staff to brief us some tea knowledge and sell us some tea.

It's pretty boring in here. Considering I'm not really in the authority to decide whether to buy or not. Well, not that I want to anyway. It's crazily expensive. So, I end up taking picture my FREE GREEN TEA!

Nice Nice?? No? I love using macro to take pictures upclose with the blurry background. It looks so professional. =P

Tho I wasn't really an attentive student during the briefing, I did remember something that she demonstrated to us. It's a magic trick.

Try this magic trick
First, take a tall transparent cup. Put in rice and pour tap water over it until it's 3/4 full. Then, add in iodine.

In another cup, make some green tea. Any brand would do. I'm pretty sure any green tea, in fact any tea would do the trick. ;)

Now you notice that the first cup with blackish in colour. Pour in the green tea to the first cup.

Notice the colour again. You should see the blackish colour decolorizing. Cool eh?

The green tea actually contain some starch. That's why the iodine decolourises. Starch can decolourise iodine from blackish to colourless.  It isn't exactly a magic show.

Rice, iodine (from seafood like fish) and water used are the food that we normally take into our stomach. What they trying to show here is that green tea has an effect in neutralizing the toxins in our stomach. Pretty impressive demostration. It feels as tho I'm in a magic show. ;D

End of the briefing, when my travelmates were deciding whether to buy the teas, my sister and I sneak a toilet break to take some pictures outside.

My mom did buy some green tea sweets. But it's all gone by now. So, Green Tea anyone?

6 opinions only?:

Tea has proven to aid in the advancement of healthy bodies due mainly to the amount of antioxidants it contains in the form of polyphenols. Doctors and researchers have found that Oolong tea provides an array of healthy body solutions including contributing to natural weight loss and reducing cholesterol and high blood pressure for a healthy heart.

Yes exactly! Now they even have tea pellets or tea pills for those who doesn't have the time to enjoy a cup of tea yet they want to lose weight. Incredible isn't it!
